STEP: HOW TO HIRE AND MANAGE EMPLOYEES FOR YOUR BUSINESS
One of the most difficult task in setting a new business is to hire the right employees for the firm and then afterwards managing them. The starting step for this task is to first define the kind of staff that is required. Sort out the kind of employees required, whether a technical staff is required or an administrative one. If a proper hierarchy is to be followed then list out a flow chart comprising of all the posts on which hiring is to be done. If no hierarchy is to be followed then make a note of all the people you think are necessary for business running and assign suitable designations to them. Either way you will have to carry out hiring process. Define the number of employees with which the business will run on successfully without any trouble in future. The more the number of employees the less will be the work burden and more will be the expenditures and vice versa. If you are planning to go for a larger business then it is always advisable to make a small book comprising of bylaws and all the other criteria related to hiring process. The criteria must also include the information regarding pre-employment drug screening of employees, the disabilities acts, minimizing work place harassment, prevention of workplace violence, employment eligibility verification and all the rights and regulations of worker’s compensation board. After all the pre-hiring preparation, the process of hiring and interviewing starts. It basically consists of four steps; written tests, screening interviews, detailed interviews and selection after a successful completion of a given task. Conventional HR interviewing techniques are preferred when only people with particular skills are required. Modern HR techniques like problem solving stamina, judgmental intelligence and tricky mind questions are preferred when the employer’s interest is given more weightage. Hiring needs not to be according to some guidelines. One can carry out in way it results in giving the most suitable and appropriate employees to the company. After hiring of employees comes the successful and effective management of selected people in order squeeze the maximum out of their efforts. Now a day most of the managers use some dynamic tools and software like Basecamp which help in a good collaboration among employees. A continuous feedback is also desired from employees sometimes in order to make up for the deficiencies if any. The motto of “A manager says go but a leader says lets go” is completely applicable on today’s working body. There are some other aspects as well which include the uniforms and provision of basic facilities at the work place. The uniform must be comfortable, well fitted, long lasting, modern and dyed in such a way that it is a perfect representative of that respective business firm. Provision of basic facilities, advanced equipment and good working environment will make employees feel at home and hence they will get to work better. This process of hiring and management of right people, if done in a successful fashion, may take your business to skies with in days.
